Lordship salvation takes a slap in the face

The following information was taken from www.faithalone.com website that shared this information. Robert Sungenis, a Catholic apologist made some comments concerning John MacArthur's position (Lordship Salvation) and he has a few words to say about Zane Hodges free grace position. Even though I do not always agree with Zane Hodges, this info goes to show that Catholics do recognize the consistency of our faith versus that of Lordship salvation. I also included another article taken from the faithalone website:

"Robert Sungenis also makes a fascinating observation about Zane Hodges suggesting that he is rare in that he is “at least being true to the implications of a faith-alone theology.” He writes:

“Dispensationalist Zane Hodges, the major spokesman for an opposing tangent of Evangelical thought [opposed to the traditionalist theology of MacArthur], has declared that the faith which appropriates the righteousness of Christ cannot be qualified [by works] in any manner without falling into a salvation by works. Hodges is at least being true to the implications of a faith alone theology, in that if one makes faith to be the sole instrument of justification then it must truly be alone, without works to qualify it.” (Ibid., 356).

He recognizes that the Free Grace position is unique and uniquely consistent. From his Westminster Seminary background, he sees in the Reformed position a “faith-alone” position that isn’t truly Sola Fide."

Here is now what Robert Sungenis said concerning John MacArthur:

“MacArthur spent almost all of his 300-page work [TGAJ] exegeting passages from the Gospels, systematically going through many of the teachings of Jesus which specified that works indeed play a large part in our standing and relationship with God. This is not surprising. Catholic theology has always maintained that the Gospels deny faith alone theology most emphatically” (Robert Sungenis, Not by Faith Alone, pg. 597)."

I personally would be concerned about believing something that another faith that I supposedly reject is now affirming my position. Here is another author that even talks about Mormons and others that affirm what John MacArthur and this Lordship position as being truth:

"But it should be disconcerting for these theologians, who loudly and often claim that they teach justification by faith alone,[15] to find that those who openly include works in the salvation formula enthusiastically endorse their writings."

In his introduction to Faith Works, MacArthur notes some of the criticisms evoked by his earlier book, The Gospel According to Jesus. The most grievous to him, he wrote, was the accusation that he was “a teacher of works-salvation.”[16] No longer can it be said that this “accusation” comes only from those who wish to criticize him. A Mormon who makes no bones about the necessity of works for salvation has embraced his writings with hearty agreement.

One wonders if MacArthur and others in the Reformed-Lordship Salvation camp don’t lay awake some nights in a cold sweat with the realization that Roman Catholic and Mormon theologians are using their writings to support their teaching!"

Here is a quote from a 5 point Calvinist John Robbins concerning John MacArthur's book 'Gospel According to Jesus Christ writes:

"MacArthur's book is very confused and dangerous. It does not present the Gospel according to Jesus, but another gospel, which is not a gospel at all, similar to that of the Roman church" ('Gospel According to John MacArthur' part 2 page 4).

All I can say to these articles is "OUCH!!!!" It is pretty bad when cults use your beliefs as theirs. When are they going to wake up and realize that they are Romanism under a new name?

Please note that my commenting on such people as Zane Hodges or Bob Wilkin's does not mean that I support these men and their teachings. I think both men share things from God's word that are absolutely wonderful. However, these men appear to believe a horrible perversion when it comes to the gospel of grace leaving out the cross to be believed. To leave out the message of the cross is to preach another gospel that will not and cannot save a lost man from his sins.
